Post Costume-Con 26: Alive. At home. We did it!
I'm very proud of all the people who worked so very hard to make my vision for CC26 a reality.

876* people came to play, and I think most of them left happy. That makes us the second largest Costume-Con in its 26-year history.

We weren't perfect, we made some mistakes, but I think we also learned from them. All the planning in the world will not eliminate the need for a giant dollop of "wing-it" at an event like this, and I appreciate the attendees' patience and forbearance when those glitches turned up.

The hotel liked us. A lot. They also took copious notes yesterday when we passed on folks' complaints.

I'll write a longer post later when I have a working brain. The daily 'zine and competition participants and awards will be posted soon; I have the data right here but don't want to risk mangling it in a post right now.

Thanks for coming out to play with us.

Kevin

*Pending final audit. The members have gone home, but we still have to do our final accounting and pay the bills.

This really won't be topped! I can't imagine a more amazing Costume-Con this century :-D

Thanks. Especially since I know you had some legitimate criticisms of our process.

I also want you to know that I *did* pay attention to that late night conversation, and passed some key hints on to CC27 that I hope will help them avoid a repeat.

The last-minute convo I had w/B&D helped put things at rest for me. And certainly the fact that most attendees I talked with were having a fabulous time! There were some comments about scheduling (the 3 @ a time thing & why nothing Friday morning & during the fashion show), but folks filled in with their own stuff pretty darn well too ;-)

Myself, well, I was busy as hell, but I loved almost every minuted of that!

Oh! Well the "nothing during the fashion show" part is a *rule* from Karen Dick. I actually asked her, since the FF Folio and Show are one of the unique items at CC and actually mandated by her as Service Mark Holder. She said the runway show was a "big tent" event equal in importance to the masquerades and should not be booked against.

Originally we were going to open the dealers room early on Friday morning but a number of them said they wouldn't be ready.

The ICG meeting (space for which is also mandated by Karen) was moved to Friday a couple years ago so that members would actually accomplish the year's business before they were fried by 3-4 days of convention. Normally there isn't anything put against it because the convention doesn't officially start until midday Friday. Delaying opening program until after the scheduled meeting *also* encourages the ICG membership to avoid drawing out the meeting quibbling over minutiae because they know it will cut into their convention time.

(And, since as chair I was of the people getting all the "we're not ready yet!" messages, believe me, starting main convention programming even two hours earlier would have been too dramalicious for comfort)

Just passing along comments -- see, there's the 1 problem with getting in new blood. They don't care so much about mtgs , rules, & the like. They just want fun stuff to see & do. And no, it wasn't just historical folks ;-)

I'm reading a real 50/50 mix now of "omg, I want to go to again" (& also "hey, looks like you guys had so much fun, I should check it out next time") & "that was a nice weekend, but I don't need to try that thing again." Will be v. interesting to see how it plays out in the long-term.

CostumeCon
Ramon/Bunny/Kevin.
What a Great party you threw and I'm happy to have attended because it was fun. Friday evenings gathering looked like a Victorian Operetta with everyone resplendent in rich fabrics and lace. I took photos but not enough to satisfy myself, and the only one who might have taken enough was Ricard (digiman)
Saturday's Masquerade was fabulous, did you know that the "SPACE GIRLS" are on YouTube. They dropped by the Klingon Black Hole Bar to get photographed with the Klingons.

Thanks for an excellent con! There was more creativity per square inch than any other con I've been to, and whoda thunk that a research scientist in a leather corset could sing so well? Or that Chris would dig deep into his costume closet and pull out a suit? And turning the con suite into an Evil Genius pary was, well, pure evil genius.

Kevin,

Thanks for a great con. From what I saw and heard in the dealer's room everyone was having a great time, and I certainly enjoyed the stuff I got to see.
